Baptism In Water and
Baptism of Holy Spirit Part 4.
1
John 2:20-29
20
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things
(not some things but all things).
21
I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but
because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22
Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is
antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever
denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that
acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also (notice that that is in
italics, meaning that it was not in the original Greek, but that the
translators gave these extra words to give you an understanding what
the words were before it).
24 Let that
therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If
that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye
also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
25
And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal
life.
26
These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce
you.
27
But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in
you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same
anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth (Jesus
said, I am the truth, I am the way, I am the life, no man can come
to the father except by me), and is no lie (the Holy
Spirit it says is truth, but Jesus said I am the truth, so the holy
Spirit and Jesus must be one and the same), and even as it
hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
28 And now,
little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may
have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.
29
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth
righteousness is born of him.
So, who is the teacher – verse 27, the
anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need
not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you
of all things, and is truth and is no lie, and even as it hath
taught you, ye shall abide in him.
So,
who taught Paul during nearly three years out in the wilderness?
Kevin:
God!
God! And yet he had a greater message than all
of the disciples that were with Christ for almost the whole two and
a half years. He had to
come and kick them. He
was teaching, ‘You guys are getting off target.
You’re bring the circumcision back in again.
He had to go, a we say in our terminology, ‘kick ass’ the
hard way. Because they
weren’t teaching right. Yet,
why shouldn’t they; they were with the Christ, shouldn’t they
know better. But he says I was not taught by flesh and blood,
meaning natural man, but I was taught by the Holy Ghost.
So what is the purpose of the teacher.
They say that God has set in the church teachers.
The purpose of the teacher, the purpose of the prophet, the
purpose of everyone else, the evangelist is to excite the church in
the Word of God that they will go after the Word and use the Holy
Spirit to teach them. Now
why is it that the Holy Spirit is supposed to do the teaching? It is so that you don’t have four thousand denominations.
Kevin: Like we do today.
Yeh. We’re
supposed to all have one teacher within the church with the Holy
Spirit teaching every man. Now
when the Holy Spirit is doing the teaching, they will all have the
same message. They won’t have something different in one church and
something different in another and all say we are of God. Sorry! That’s
why the Moslems and all these other religions think that we’re
crazy. The don’t have
different sects. Even
the Jews have two sects. But
not the Christians. We’ve
got thousands. Now I
thought that it was like two thousand till they came on the news one
day and said that there was like four thousand.
How can you have four thousand sects, or two thousand or one
hundred or fifty of anything and say your of God?
So they all think we’re crazy.
They all would rather choose not to accept the Bible at all
because everybody interprets it different.
Kevin: Oh ya. Where are you supposed to go to?
Right. So
can you imagine if you were raised in another religion and then a
Christian comes to you and he wants to preach Chistianity to you.
You would say, ‘Which Christianity?’
Do you all have the same Bible?
Oh, you all have the same Bible but you say, ‘No that
one’s nuts.’ ‘There
is no Holy Spirit today, that was for two thousand years ago, but
they are good believers.’ Ya, sure, okay. So
it is the Holy Spirit that is supposed to be the teacher. That’s why it says, ‘those with itching ears’, they
want to hear what they want to believe.
They’ve got itching ears.
They will hear what is best suited to their religion, and
then run with it. Those that are ever learning and never coming to the
knowledge of the truth. Well,
then that means that there are those that will be ever learning.
That means that they don’t know anything that God wants
them to know. The
letter of the law killeth, but the Spirit giveth life.
That’s why Jesus said, you heard in the law, it said, he
would then quote form the Old Testament what the law would say but
then he would say, ‘I say unto you...’ then He would give the
revelation of what that law meant, in not bondage but freedom.
Only God gives us liberty.
He said, don’t let your liberty be a license to do evil.
Even though you are not under the law an longer let the law
be as your guide, as your schoolmaster to bring you to Christ.
But the law is saying ‘Thou shalt not, thou shalt not…
but Jesus said I give you a new law, ‘Love thy neighbor as thy
self, in this is fulfilled, not some of the law, but all of the law.
Kevin: So that is the fulfillment of
the law. You become
water baptized, you have more of a perfect understanding, you can
set aside the external restraints because now God has internalized
through you.
Exactly! That’s
why now when you go preach, you preach the freedom that Christ has
given in us. Not
Bondage any more. God
has not put things in a box and say you can only do it this way
except basic doctrine. Under
doctrine He wants us to understand this doctrine.
Otherwise if you do it without the understanding it doesn’t
mean anything. You go
down in the water, you come up wet. But he wants you to go down in the water with the
understanding while your going in the water and you come up with the
understanding that I have been circumcised in Christ, I’ve
made a covenant like Abraham did with God.
Kevin:
And what is this covenant, what are we committing to?
What is the crux of it?
Good! Back
to Galatians again. Galatians,
where we just read is telling us what that covenant is.
Because, in chapter 3 it tells us that since we are no longer
under the law at verse 21:
Gal 3:21-29
21
Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if
there had been a law given which could have given life, verily
righteousness should have been by the law.
22
But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the
promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23
But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the
faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24
Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ (for
what reason?), that we might be justified by faith (by
Christ).
Kevin:
Justified?
Made righteous by faith in Christ. So your justified, and wait till I show you a scripture on
that, by faith in Christ.
25
But after that faith (or Christ) is come, we are no longer under a
schoolmaster.
26
For ye are all the children of God (how?) by
faith in Christ Jesus.
27
For (how?) AS MANY OF YOU AS HAVE BEEN BAPTIZED INTO CHRIST
HAVE PUT ON (enduo, to put on a garment)CHRIST.(
put on Christ)
Now,
what is the purpose of all this?
What have I achieved?
28 There is
neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is
neither male nor female: FOR YE ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS.
What have I achieved?
What have I done all of
this for? Why am
I making the covenant for? So
I can be one in Christ. So
that it is no longer you that liveth anymore, but it is God Himself
now that indwells you, so act like it.
We don’t always act like it.
That’s why he wants our soul and our body to be conformed
to that new spirit. Because,
when you go into that water, He gives you the power and the ability
to become like He is, in the flesh.
But He makes your spirit absolutely perfect. Because when He gave you the Spirit in the first place, it
was already from God, it was already perfect but the soul and the
body was not yet perfect. So
He wants you to have the ability to bring it into perfection.
Kevin: So,
the whole thing about this is to bring the soul into accordance with
the spirit.
And the body in accordance with the spirit.
Now, Christ said went he went to go into the water of
baptism, ‘It is necessary, it becommeth us to fulfill all
righteousness.’ You
don’t get the righteousness there is no forgiving of sins.
It says that when you go into the water of circumcision
baptized into Him, it says wiping away all transgressions that were
against us, nailing them on the cross.
Jesus said, ‘it becommeth us to fulfill all
righteousness.’ I got
to enter the water, I got to make a covenant with God to become
righteous. That’s why
He said that ‘Your righteousness is as filthy rags.’
But the righteousness of God is fulfilled when we make the
covenant with Him in water baptism.
That’s why of Abraham, it said that it was imputed
unto him for righteousness sake because he believed the promises of
God. Christ
didn’t die on the cross yet.
But because he was willing to take those promises and believe
them, God accounted it unto him for righteousness sake.
Why? Because he
made a covenant with God. The
covenant. When he
circumcised himself, God had not made His part of the covenant yet.
Man circumcised himself but God hadn’t shed His blood yet.
So the covenant hadn’t yet been fully fulfilled until He
died on the cross, shed His blood, now both part of the bargain now
was sealed by both bloods. First,
with Abraham, the other through the Christ.
But Christ gave and extra, not only did He say you have a
covenant with me, and have become one with me, but you have become
my son and beyond that, you have become one with me.
Instead of you being with Christ, you become the Christ, you
are heirs of the promise. That’s
why it says that it is no longer you that liveth, but Christ that
liveth in you. Know ye
not that you have the mind of Jesus Christ.
How did you get the mind of Jesus Christ?
I thought that it was supposed to be the mind of Kevin. He says, ya, you have the mind of Kevin, but do you want to
use my mind or do you want to use yours.
Because, I am the head and you are the body. The body can’t think on its own. I am the Head, then leave me as the Head.
So, when you want to do your thing, say, Lord, I will do this
if you be willing. Now
let me prove it too you. Let’s
go in James chapter 5 it shows that when you go to do anything in
business, you go to do anything for whatever it is you are to see if
it goes along with God. In
James chapter 5 He makes a remarkable statement and when we go to do
things, we wonder what method that we go to do them, and God says,
‘No.’ We have to
make it in what God wants to do instead of what we want to do. He
wants everything to be in relationship with Him.
So you don’t leave Him out of nothing.
He wants to be involved, he said I am your friend.
Well, friends stick together in all things.
But then he really makes it clear when He says, ‘Heh, I’m
the Head, and you’re the body.
The body does no thinking on its own, it only obeys what the
brain tells it to do. The
brain does the thinking. It
makes the commands; the body obeys. So
you want to bring your body into conformity, make your body a living
sacrifice unto God. So
the body is no longer under your control any more.
You want it under the Lord’s control and you need the
obedience in order to achieve something.
So He says in James 4 starting at verse 10:
James 4:10-17
10
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you
up.
11
Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of
his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and
judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of
the law, but a judge.
12
There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art
thou that judgest another?
13
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into
such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get
gain:
14
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is
your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time,
and then vanisheth away.
15
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and
do this, or that.
16
But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is
evil.
17
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to
him it is sin.
So if I want to go into a business or do
whatever, what I should say is If the Lord be willing I would like
to do this business, that business, work here, work there, or
whatever. But God says,
you got your will, you can go do that if you want, it will be my
permissive will but it may not be my exact will.
But if you put ‘me’ in it and say, ‘Lord, if you want
me to work over hear and do this job or do that job, then show me
that that’s what you want me to do and why.’ as if you are gong
to do it. God does not
expect you to stand there and wait for an answer.
As you are going as he said in Isaiah whether you go to the
left or whether you go to the right there will be a still small
voice behind thee saying this is the way
walk ye in it.
Isa
30:21
21
And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the
way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn
to the left.
Kevin: In the terms that I look at it,
to me is if it fells right, do it, when it feels right to be
following His path.
You say, ‘Father, in the name of Jesus, here
is a path that I seem to think that I should go, what do you want me
to do.’
Imagine, I’ve got an enormous amount to teach
you and it may take possibly years for me to do so, but in that
period of time, whether it is one, year, two years, or whatever,
notice that with Christ it was two and a half years that the
disciples were being taught. But when Paul was out in the wilderness it was two and a half
years he was being taught by the Holy Spirit.
Kevin: He didn’t have to work.
That’s a lot of teaching, I’ll tell you.
So in chapter four of James he makes this
statement in verse 10.
Now
here it comes, about business.
People that want to say, ‘Well, I will decide to go and do
something, especially in the Think And Grow Rich with Napolean Hill,
you got to set a goal and go after the goal.
Well, in general, in all selling, that is what you do.
Set the goal and go after it.
But God says, ‘No, you don’t set the goal that way.
Here’s how you set it.
13
Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into
such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get
gain:
14
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your
life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and
then vanisheth away.
15
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and
do this, or that.
16 But now ye
rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do
good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
So, God tells us that he wants him to be
involved in our lives at all times.
And to be truthful, even with my wife and I, when it came to
have a relationship with one another sexually, we asked the Lord to
intervene and to show us things and the Lord began to speak and show
us things that aren’t in the books and having a sexual
relationship between the husband and the wife and He will do it for
any and every individual, so instead of going to another book to
find out how we should behave the one to the other – because it
says that the husband’s body doesn’t belong to the husband any
more, it belongs to the wife – the wife’s body doesn’t belong
to her any more, it belongs to the husband.
Well, why does He say that?
What is it spiritually He wants done and physically done?
As husband, our whole attitude is how to please the wife. Not
ourselves. And the attitude of the wife should be how to please that
husband, because in pleasing the husband and the husband pleasing
the wife, we meet each other’s needs.
But the husband wants his own need met and thinks only of
himself or visa versa the wife of her needs, neither one gets truly
met. Because only God
knows what the wife’s need really is, because every woman is
different. And one that
would please one wife may not necessarily please the other. So the
husband should be asking the Lord, ‘She belongs to me but she is
yours. What shall I do
to meet my wife’s needs that she may not even know about.’ And
let God begin to guide. Then
you both get excited together, realizing that God has intervened,
and God relating and teaching the husband and teaching the wife to
meet the need. Then you will look and say ‘How did you know that
that would excite me?’ ‘But I never knew it would excite me
before.’ ‘Well, the
Lord told me.’ Things such as that.
So with Betsy and I, we realized that the only way to do this
properly was to go before the Lord and have Him teach us what each
other’s needs are. Because
a woman as well as a man can look and say, ‘Well, no I don’t
want that, no this would not be right, that wouldn’t be right
before God instead of saying, ‘What does God want of us.’
Because the scripture says that the marriage bed is
undefiled. All things
are open unto the two partners that are looking to glorify and edify
each other but each one has to find out what the need is of the
other. You won’t know because half the time they won’t even know
what to tell you. But
the Spirit will know what the partner needs.
And if you ask the Spirit He will begin to reveal it to you.
It will shock the living daylights out of the other partner of how
great it is. ‘Gee, how did you know that?’ ‘I didn’t, the
Spirit told me.’ And they know it had to be somebody else, it
couldn’t have been you. And
then it gives them that loving relationship to see that you’re
being led by the Spirit of God and not over your own selfish
desires. We all have
the desires. We all
have sexual needs. It all needs to be met. But how and what
arrangements does the wife need to meet it and so on.
So these are things that we ask of God. So we go to do a job
and we ask the Lord instead. Here
is a job, now you gave me that job. How do you want it done? Bring
in the right people to have it done and so on. So I had a problem
with the computer, and my guy is getting sick, I said, ‘Lord, I
have a computer problem. I can’t go ask him again. You haven’t
healed him yet. Yet he will do it if I ask him. I know that. Lord,
you said that for me to ask of you to get this thing fixed, then,
fine, send him in. Mindy was already here. But she never once said
that she knew anything about computers. Not an inkling of it.
Kevin; You think I was sent your way huh.
Naturally! Nothing comes into your life or
mine, the scripture says, except sent of God. I sure needed you.
Amen, brother! Now, let’s continue with the Holy Spirit and water
baptism. Turn now to Acts in chapter 8 in a wonderful scripture that
shows both water baptism and baptism of the Holy Spirit. Starting at
verse 5:
Acts
8:5-9:3
5
Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached
Christ unto them.
6
And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things
which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7
For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many
that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that
were lame, were healed.
8
And there was great joy in that city (no wonder).
9
But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime
in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria,
giving out that himself was some great one:
10 To whom they all gave
heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great
power of God.
11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had
bewitched them with sorceries.
12
But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning
the kingdom of God (Jesus Christ), and the name of Jesus, they were
baptized (but it doesn’t say whether it was the Holy Spirit
baptism or water baptism yet does it), both men and women.
13
Then Simon himself (the sorcerer) believed also: and when he
was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the
miracles and signs which were done.
14
Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem (not Philip)
heard that Samaria had received the Word of God, they sent unto them
Peter and John (why did God send an entire different disciples and
apostle for? Why
didn’t He have Philip do it?
Because he knew that someday there would be a teaching that
when you were baptized in water, you received the baptism of the
Holy Spirit at the same time and that they were one and the same.
That there weren’t two different baptisms. So God puts this in the scripture for stupid people like us
who someday would have that belief.
So he sent different people, different disciples and
apostles because watch what it says):
15
(Peter and John) Who, when they were come down, prayed for
them (Samaritans), that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
(colon)
16
(For as
yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the
name of the Lord Jesus.)
So
here’s your water baptism. But
they hadn’t received the Holy Spirit baptism yet.
17
Then
laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Well, how can you tell a
spirit has fallen on anybody? Next
verse.
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on
of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered
them money,
19
Saying, Give me
also this power (this exousia - this right, this
ability or privilege), that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may
receive the Holy Ghost
(he was a sorcerer, he can do everything so much so that the
people thought this was a man of God.
But this one he couldn’t do.
So the general teaching of the church today that is while
this is of Satan, this is not of God. Well, if it’s of Satan, how come Simon couldn’t do
it and he wanted to buy it with money.
He knew it was of God because he said give me also this
power that on whomsoever I lay hands that they may receive the Holy
Ghost. He knew it was of God but he wasn’t able to practice it.
He didn’t have the power to do it.
If Satan had the ability to give it to those of his own,
why didn’t he give it to this great man of God, Simon the Sorcerer?
But what was it that was different. What was it that he saw that was something he
couldn’t do? He
knew it was something observable because he saw it happen.
How can you see a Holy Ghost come upon somebody? That’s
spiritual. There
was an action that he had to have seen. How when three pastors met with me many years ago in the
early 80’s, trying to stop me because some of those that were in
my bible study were going to their church, some of which did not
believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit at all and here now they
are back at their church and said they had received the Holy Ghost.
Well, they came to protect the members of the church.
They came to me to stop me, of course, from teaching this
error and one big thing they wanted to do was show me Acts 8 where
there was proof that there was no speaking in tongues whatsoever.
Because it doesn’t say it. And
I said “But it does say it”.
They said no it doesn’t.
I said “But it does but its hidden and you don’t know its
there. Let me prove it
to you.” Now, next
verse.
20
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because
thou hast thought that the gift of God
(now notice that he says, receive the Holy Spirit
in verse 19, the Holy Ghost, but verse 20 Peter calls
receiving the Holy Ghost the gift of God which verifies Acts
Chapter 2 where they said men and brethren what shall we do and
Peter says repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name
of Jesus Christ for the remission [there’s your water baptism]
of sins and he shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost for
the promise is given unto you and your children and your
children’s children. So
he calls it the gift of God
may be purchased with
money. (Here it comes.)
21
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter:
for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22
Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if
perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23
For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and
in the bond of iniquity.
24
Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me,
that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me (in
other words, once you receive that Holy Spirit you speak against
somebody ouch they’re going to get their rear end kicked if there
isn’t repentance involved. That’s
the power you will now have).
25
And they, when
they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to
Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the
Samaritans.
Now, what is the secret?
Look at verse 21 and I’m going to get the Greek text for
you and show you what it says.
I went and got the interlinear Greek that shows the Greek and
the English underneath each Greek word and the Strongs numbering
system under each Greek word and to the left will be the English
translation but not in the King James Revised Standard Version.
Now we go to verse 21 of Chapter 8 where we see the
following:
21
Repent therefore from thy wickednessness of you and petition God
perhaps will be forgiven you the thought of you of the heart of you. Now go to the verse where he talks about the Holy Spirit at
verse 20 and he says:
But said to him the silver of you, (the money),
with you to be in perdition because the gift of God
you thought through money to get, but what does he say now in the
Greek about the matter.
The point here is this.
Notice the verse starting here at 21.
There is to you part nor lot in matter this, this matter.
See the word matter; above it is a Greek word, λογω
(logo). Translated is
lema (the upsidedown y), omicron (the o) gamma (what looks like a y)
and omega (what looks like a w) or logo. Why would it say logo? When
you go to John in Chapter 1 we all recognize the magic word in the
beginning was the word.
John 1:1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God.
Acts and I go to John before Acts in Chapter 1.
In the beginning was the word λογος
(logos), lema (the upsidedown y), omicron (the o) gamma (what looks
like a y), omega (what looks like an o), and sigma (what looks like
an s). So in the
beginning was the logos or low goas but this one is logo.
What’s the different between logo and logos.
Logo is 3056.
NT:3056
logos (log'-os); from NT:3004; something said
(including the thought); by implication a topic (subject of
discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by
extension, a computation; specifically (with the article in John)
the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):
KJV - account, cause, communication, X
concerning, doctrine, fame, X have to do, intent, matter, mouth,
preaching, question, reason, + reckon, remove, say (-ing), shew, X
speaker, speech, talk, thing, + none of these things move me,
tidings, treatise, utterance, word, work.
The word of God.
So we look up in the Greek Thayers as well as the
Englishmen’s Greek for the word.
Now the word here is 3056.
I’m looking the in the Englishmen’s Greek Concordance
here it says logos. In
the beginning, saving for the cause of pronunciation for the cause
the word let your communication be low gos here at the Zames. See the translation, Zames, word, word, only account,
speaketh a word so the word is a spoken word.
Now what is this word then in Acts, Chapter 8 at verse 21?
There is no part or lot in this matter. What is it?
3056. So when you put the word of the Greek in the text instead of
translated as logos in the Greek, its logo.
It’s the same word.
The Thayers Greek lexicon says of 3056;

Genesis

you and every living creature of all flesh: and the waters shall
no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow
shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may
remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living
creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And God said
unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have
established between me and all flesh that is upon the
earth. (information on flood)

Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drove out
before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; 46 Who
found favor before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the

Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with
hands; as saith the prophet, Heaven (Body of Christ) is my
throne and earth is my foot stole: or what is the
place of my rest? 50 Hath not my hand made all these things? Ye
stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always
resist the Holy Ghost; as your fathers did, so did ye.
Is
it God's Will the you be healed or in good health?
